The new best seller, Fifty Shades of Grey, by E.L James, discusses women’s secret desire to be sexually dominated. While some critics see this desire as incompatible with sexual equality, Therapist Randi Gunther disagrees. Gunther notes that this fantasy is created by women and is thus inherently consensual. The fantasy usually involves an idealized man who falls deeply in love with the woman and treats her well. The fantasy has evolved over time, with women becoming more active and men less dominating, and with the relationship between them becoming more egalitarian. The change can be seen in more modern “fairy tales” such as recent Disney animated films like “Mulan.”Read more here: Hundred Shades of Grey: Are Sexual Submission and Gender Equality Mutually Exclusive?
