Still Working On It

Longmont couple Gene and Darlene Allen have been married 65 years and even now are “still working on a few things.” Gene’s career as a city planner caused the Allen family to move 31 times and his 70-hour workweek put a lot of strain on their relationship. Setting aside designated family time two times a week did help, as did sharing many common values. Their story shows that marriage, like any relationship, is always a work in progress. There’s no magic fix-it spell and resolving major issues doesn’t mean you’ll never have a disagreement again. It just means you’ll become better problems-solvers in the future.
